I enjoy taking seemingly normal images and having one thing in them that is off-putting or out of the ordinary. One example of this is my personal project, titled Bullseye. This project explores the grotesque way we view animals and put people on a pedestal. In addition, it puts people in a view that we often see animals: hunted, with a “bullseye” on them, where at any moment they can be degraded to nothing more than “meat.” I chose this way of photographing due to my strong interest in showing what is often overlooked or what we tend to turn our cheek to. My intention was to have the viewer feel more put into the art, as if they are experiencing it themselves. I used the photography technique of shallow depth of field to put an emphasis on the subject, with the background blurred. One creative choice that helped communicate my idea was choosing to keep most of my images darker, to bring a curiosity and unsettling feeling.
